Kerry for President

130124102150-01-john-kerry-horizontal-galleryMarquel TPVs NYTimes Liability Section correspondent was building paper planes when he read Kerry Says Russia Trained Separatists to Use Antiaircraft Missiles.  Secretary of State John Kerry said on Sunday, “We know for certain that the separatists have a proficiency that they’ve gained by training from Russians as to how to use these sophisticated SA-11 systems.”

Marquel read the self important Times article and he had a headache. One phrase seemed to be bouncing back and forth in his cranium and he couldn’t get rid of it. “So what,” it said, and echoed, “so what so what so what so what….”

If every nation in the world were blamed for training idiots in faraway lands, wouldn’t the US lead the pack? Has John Kerry ever heard of glass houses?

The phrase was still echoing but more softly. Marquel laid down on his Corbusier couch and considered the implications. Who have we trained? Let’s forget the most obvious as a special case, the Israelis. But consider Isis, the group that has taken over most of Syria and Iraq. Didn’t we train all the Iraqis of every persuasion over the years in the hope of stabilizing their government? What about the Libyans? The Kurds? A host of African countries, half of South America or more, the list is as long as the names of members printed on the side of the U.N. building.

I don’t mind blaming the US for destroying the world but shouldn’t Secretary of State John Kerry have more second thoughts about doing so?. I felt like calling up Hillary for her take on it but I decided an intelligent answer would be better. I called Bill.

“It does seem rather self abusive,” he said, “and risky but I think John was going in for a quick kill.”
“Is that good politics?” I asked.
“Well, first of all, Hillary would never do it” he said, “but as President she would have more responsibilities. John is just one member of the cabinet and what he says can always be disavowed.”
“But should it be?” I asked, “I mean, be disavowed? Is it good politics or bad politics to blame a country for having trained another?”
“I would say it depends. Hillary of course would never act so rashly.” He said, ” but politically very often the short term is what is important.”
“Meaning?” I asked.
“Meaning even if something is illogical or contradictory, it might be a good short term solution.”
“That’s somewhat Machiavellian,” I remarked, “isn’t it?”
“Well it’s not an approach Hillary would adopt,” he answered,  “but the history of nations is filled with such claims.”
“Examples?” I wondered.
“Well there was the time at the start of WWI when we claimed a ship was attacked, then in WWII, some believe Pearl Harbor could have been avoided, then in Viet Nan we claimed to be attacked but weren’t, then there were the medical students in Grenada who were never in danger, then there’s the WMD that never existed in Iraq,…” He said.
“But those are all US contradictions!” I interrupted.
“It doesn’t matter,” he insisted, “Hillary will never do that.”
“But besides us,” I said, “who would?”
He said, “Kerry’s already done it. So we know he’ll do what Hillary never will.”
“You mean get elected?” I wondered.
He threw me physically out the door. I knew Hillary would never do that.

  1. What do you expect? It’s Bill’s time to stand by his man. Oops. Woman, or whatever gender Hillary is.

  2. Really? You want Kerry for president? I don’t know I don’t trust any of these old guard people, but on the other hand I distrust the Clintons the most.
