TheWeekholeView: The Almost French Invasion of the News

Here, each hole starts on Wednesdays and this is what fell through this past week, in more than one way or day:

On Wednesday, January 15, a $1.1 trillion government-wide spending bill easily cleared the House and was expected to fill in the blanks of December’s budget agreement which called for unlimited military spending. Congress defended its action by whispering  “How many more Benghazi-type security mishaps can we investigate?” and “How many times can the dead ambassador [blanks for future names] be blamed for lack of military protection?”

On Thursday, January 16, Martin Scorsese read the list of 2014 Oscar nominees and despite TPV’s endorsement of The Wolf of Wall Street for best picture and of Marty for best director, the Academy would skip his work and bestow the naked golden boy to Captain Philips (God, no!!)

Friday, January 17, a three-judge federal panel put all alternative indie sites like TPV on notice that MAYBE soon no one would be able to read them because no one would be able to locate them on the net. That’s how TPV read the recent decision questioning the non-existing net neutrality rules. Until then, however, there still is time for our little but funny voice to be heard so, this post is to honor all federal agencies, whose own rules and regulations MIGHT soon be hard to find.

On Saturday, January 18, The French Magazine Le Nouvel Observateur commented on the recent publication of Oscar nominees and added its own list of Zoscar winners. In the category of Best Actress, Le Zoscar goes to Julie Gayet for her amazing ascendance from a minor note in Lui (1996) to the front page on Le Monde (2014). The actress, whose film debut was in Kieslowski’s Bleu (1993), marveled the world media with her most recent “A Presidential Fad. But for How Long?

On Sunday, January 19, the Syrian opposition government, the one made-up of old boys who do not live in Syria, got upset when they heard they might not be able to go home and start paying back their current hosts. Putin could not contain his smirk.

ZahiaOn Monday, January 20, the French celebrated our MLK day off by elevating the former under-age call girl, Zahia, to the ranks of “desirable immigrant.” Here is a taste of Zahia:

On Tuesday, January 21, 2014, Annie Leibovitz could not believe the rumors that her pictures of the funny girl Lena Durham became the feministas’ talk of the latest latte break [see featured picture of the pretzel girl and someone’s toy boy]. So, she continued the shooting.

Otherwise, if you care about restoring government by the people, sign this petition to have Congress overturn Citizens United!

  1. I heard about that photoshop scandal – in the original RAW photos, the dog was one of those Shar-peis, but they photoshopped off some flabby folds and made it into a shapely French poodle.

  2. I didn’t understand the last video, probably because it was French. But, I understand why our feminists may be mad, while the French are happy.

  3. I bet this post will be frowned upon because of you calling Captain Phillips terrible. But, personally, I agree.

  4. And then there are the French feminists: up with butter, down with bras. In solidarity!
