7-Year Low Reported in Piracy Off Somalia, The NY Times Reports & Mike Concludes:

The United Nations secretary general attributed the decline to increased international policing and information-sharing, including especially the release of the new Tom Hanks movie, “Captain Eddie (?)” which finally tells the truth about the Somalian so-called ” pirates,” a romantic group of young cinephiles tarred by the media as thugs.

At least three movie theaters in Somalia have been seized by the former pirates, and are being held until part 2 of the movie is released. Meanwhile it is almost impossible to enter the theatres which are filled with wiry dark skinned youths who proudly say, for instance, “this is us. It’s a good movie. All we ever wanted was to find Tom Hanks. He was never in any of the ships I seized.”

Asked if he would return to the sea, the youth, surprisingly named Mohammed, said

Not unless they’re showing this movie on board.

No chance at all? we asked him.

Well do you think we could find Katy Perry on one of those cruise ships?

Clearly this story is yet to be over.
