Indian Craft Is Lofted Toward Mars, Trailed by Pride and Questions and Calls for Help

The launch of the craft towards Mars is a major step in India’s hopes to become the first country in Asia to reach Mars, and thus to profit from the absence of roaming charges.

“If you think about it,” said the director of India’s space program, called YTIMCIHY (Yes This Is Mars Can I Help You), “there is unlimited space up there and no roaming charges. No more little cubicles. This will end the concept of help desks. Every Indian telemarketer will have an entire suite. Help suites on Mars. No roaming charges. Can you believe it?

An entire planet devoted to telemarketing is hard to imagine, but the numbers add up. Microsoft, Dell, Samsung, and even Google helped finance the project and have entered into contracts for space in space. A Microsoft spokesperson said,

YTIMCIHY promises to lower costs. Real estate is unlimited up there so prices are close to zero.

In a test, several calls to the Google help desk were directed to the Indian craft where they were answered by experienced telemarketers. The connections were perfect and the technology up to the task, but the unsuspecting callers uniformly agreed that, as one from the UK said,

you couldn’t understand one bloody word of what they said. Sounded like a bunch of bloody Indians. I thought they spoke English there.
