NYTimes Says: Colorado Is Asking Taxpayers for $1 Billion to Help Schools

Colorado has been asking its taxpayers for $1 billion to help its public schools.
In a new twist, however, in order to avoid raising taxes, the state is simply asking taxpayers whether there isn’t “at least one of them” who might cut a check for that amount.

“In return,” said the governor, “all schools in Colorado will be named for him or her. “Furthermore, all children in the schools will take the benefactor’s family name.”

Won’t that cause confusion and stress? asked Marquel in a private meeting with the governor.

Oh, no. Present kindergartners and up will keep their own names because they’ve grown used to them. But starting next year and year by year after that, new kindergarten students will adopt this new family name. I’m sure they’ll consider it a great honor.
