The magnitude of its economy is not illusory. It affects the current presidency, and it affects the little guy. The only difference is that the story of the unemployed little guy is too dreary and ordinary, unless it can be connected to the grandiosity of war. Think about how the story of marines drinking beer to remember comrades killed in an Iraq we occupied out of pure intellectual laziness and chutzpah can become a dream of meaning for the millions of desperate unemployed Americans!
The Times article laudatory of the Obama grit in deciding who can be killed and who can be spared reminded us here at TPV how far we have come as a country: Our military used to exchange 100 Americans for 1 Korean. And those were combatants. Now, we kill people because they threaten us. We’ve come down a morally destructive path …a long way.
