President Barack Obama said Thursday he
“absolutely makes no apologies” for seeking the release of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl in a prisoner swap with the Taliban.
The president vigorously defended the exchange of 5 Taliban Guantanamo-trained worriers for our ballet trained sgt. The exchange had caused a furor in the United States and had dogged the president on his European trip to fine dining with 6 world leaders (none friend of Putin). The constitutional debate surely made the former ConLaw adjunct become less inclined to engage in any vigorous site-seeing.
“When it comes to getting soldiers back from a losing war,” Obama said, “We don’t condition whether we make the effort to get them back. We do it. Sometimes there is a glitch because there are no Guantanamo detainees ready for the swap.”
When asked to elaborate, the President said that being ready usually means having survived a dozen water-boarding events and a decade of 24 hour isolation. The problem is few can stand up and say their name after the Guantanamo training is finished.
So, that is why only 5 Talibanis were swapped for the dancing sgt.
