TheWeekholeView – A Day by Day Account of a Scripted Life

[embedyt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0x4aSM5yM4[/embedyt]Here, each hole starts on Wednesdays and this is what fell through this past week, in more than one way or day:

On Wednesday, June 18, the Office of Presidential Correspondence , which sorts through thousands of letters, set aside 10 letters for President Obama to read after dinner, while sipping a glass of sherry.

On Thursday, June 19, President Obama read the 10 letters assigned to him. They were letters from pre-K, and K students and they mostly contained drawings of the President and his family. The President smoked a Cuban cigar that evening.

Friday, June 20, the President read a letter which just said,

“Hello Barack!”

He liked its simplicity and promised to write back,

“Hello, Goodfella!”

But his Potus Copyright Expert said that Marty Scorsese owned that word. The President smiled tolerantly, and replied:

“Only its plural, dear fella. Only its plural.”

On Saturday, June 21, the President read over some notes in the margins of a letter he had read the previous day. He sat down to reply personally. He also sent a copy of the letter to his staff – they do not meet regularly, some being mayors of faraway cities, such as Chicago, as a reminder of what they were supposed to fight for when they received their plum jobs as pay-off.  But that’s a story that would make people upset.

“Forget about it,” the President told himself. And he forgot.

He continued his focus on Rebekah, the hardworking mom from Minneapolis, who wrote the letter he was focusing on for the last couple of days, and which allowed him to realize how hard it was for Americans who were not him or the Clintons to live from day or day.  The staff bet $5 the President would set that letter aside for a reply, and as you just saw, he did. The staff lost $5. Their next job should be good enough to make up for the loss.

On Sunday, June 22, the President was walking his dog around the White House, when he had an epiphany. Or his staff told him so. He was going to meet Rebekah in person on Thursday. He was going to make a movie about their meeting and post it on YouTube.

On Monday, June 23, emails were sent by the Office of Presidential Correspondence to let us know that the President was going to Minnesota to meet Rebekah. Some staffers flew in earlier to bring her some fried rice and shrimp. Thus, she was able to eat for the first day in months. (She might need intravenous feeding, some cruelly suggested).

On Tuesday, June 24, 2014, more emails were sent by the Office of Presidential Correspondence . Some reached the TPV headquarters:

When the President travels to Minnesota, he’ll launch the first in a series of “day-in-the-life” visits across the country this summer. He’ll spend a day with Rebekah — and he’ll meet with her family and community members to discuss the issues that matter to them, host a town hall, and talk about the steps we need to take as a country to help more Americans like Rebekah get ahead.

Make sure you see Rebekah’s story — and then tune in on Thursday as the President travels to Minnesota.

Thanks,

Dan

  1. Liked it…the story of Barack and Rebekah.. with a little tightening it could be a Coke commercial (“…thanks Mean Joe…”)

With a little loosening it could be a children’s book series.
