The French satirical publication Le Canard Enchaine is not our Onion. Its articles, even when more wishful thinking than factual reports are the result of factual though satirical analysis of political events. Thus, here at ThePotholeview, when we read the July 11, 2012 article (Valerie T. si je mens, p.8) that the French President Francois Hollande finds his ravishing companion, Valerie T damagingly impulsive, and may separate we take it as real proof that Francois wants to escape his current condition W. Somerset Maugham described a century ago as “human bondage.” We only hope that M Hollande’s reading list contains other authors in addition to Maugham and Balzac, who is more notably known for his not funny Human Comedy.
