Following Bill de Blasio’s oustanding results in yesterday’s democratic primaries for Mayor of New York, the corporate blogosphere is suddenly struggling to find what they never had: some depth.
How can we say something about de Blasio without saying anything really meaningful?
How can we say that he is the choice of New York, when we do not want to paint New York as a city whose neighborhoods stretch beyond the Upper East Site and the Financial District? ask the bloggers of the corporate world.
In complete agreement they succeed to avoid defining de Blasio as who he is: a man whose beliefs are based on the economics of inequality and not on the color of his or his wife’s skin, or how tall he is or whether his son’s afro is really cute.
So, it becomes twice amusing when so-called liberal blogs lack the word “progressive” from their vocabulary, and the best they can come with is “the Obama of New York.” If that could have been something endearing in 2008, it has become a darn insult in 2013. Of, course, in all fairness both Obama and de Blasio are two tall not-obese men, but I do not see anything else in common between them, unless The Huffington Post bloggers know something the rest of us don’t.
Congratulations to all New Yorkers who found their voice and voted their beliefs. It feels good to be a New York democrat today!
