The Australian Times: If Sex and Money Engender a Political Career in Romania, Plagiarism May Endanger It

SEX and money used to be the temptations that drew politicians into scandal: now it appears to be the copy and paste keys on their computer.

Romania’s Prime Minister, Victor Ponta, is fighting to save his career after allegations of plagiarism. His government has already lost two education ministers to similar claims. Now, Ponta is facing accusations of copying his 2003 PhD thesis!

More than half of his 432-page opus on the International Criminal Court is said to have been lifted from the works of Romanian law scholars.

Mr Ponta suggested that his only mistake had been to cite the scholars he had “consulted” in the bibliography, rather than as footnotes.

Here that mistake is called plagiarism!
