Home Americanism To shoot or to kiss thy neighbor

To shoot or to kiss thy neighbor

If you believed that the movie industry was one of our better chances to escape depression, think again. It is the gun industry. Lead by the best lobby in the nation, the National Rifle Association (NRA), gun manufacturers have nothing to fear except fear itself.

Since the beginning of this scary depression, state after state passed legislation encouraging Joe after Joe (JoAnne, too) to buy guns and shoot at anybody trespassing onto their property. The legislation identified as “Castle Law” is the latest populist scheme to encourage the Americans who vote Republican to pretend that even if their house is not really theirs but the bank’s and it does not really look like a castle but a garage, at least they could kill trespassers as if they were feudal landowners.  Imagine the entertainment.

Knock, knock.

Who’s there?

Your neighbor?

Your neighbor who?

Your dead neighbor if I come in.

Not a friendly situation, but these are not friendly times. These are surviving times, and even if we all were to kill each other, the NRA believes that those standing would buy a few more guns. Unfortunately, we will never know the answer to that because no PTV reporter is willing to risk her life to investigate the situation on the ground.
