TheWeekholeView: And the Nobel Prize Goes to Naomi. No!!!

georgeHere, each hole starts on Wednesdays and this is what fell through this past week, in more than one way or day:

On Wednesday, September 10,  George Clooney and wife moved to this castle on a Thames island not far away from London, in Sonning. TPV wishes them many paparazzi to come.

Thursday, September 11, arguably the most famous 44-year old bad speller, Naomi Campbell, congratulated ‘malaria’ on winning the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize twice on social media, first on Twitter and then on Instagram.

For those of you out there who believed malaria won the Nobel prize, TPV is happy to tell you that the name of the young woman is actually Malala: Malala won the prize because after being shot in the head for promoting literacy for Pakistani girls she moved to London.  Fully recovered she visited with the Queen and told her that she hoped all Pakistani girls would soon join her.

angOn Friday, September 12, Queen Elizabeth II moved by Malala’s publicity engineered her own publicity coup by honoring Angelina Jolie with the highest British civilian order, that of Dame.

“Honorary Dame,” Dame Judy Dench corrected our typist by email.

On Saturday, September 13, getting ready for this weekholeview I came across the name of Gregory Chelli, aka Ulcan, who single handedly hacked and terrorized French sites he deemed pro-Palestinian. Now TPV is not a French site but we are pro-peace as old Meretz party members are who attended the Meretz demonstration when Prime Minister Rabin was assassinated. Knowing that about us, Ulcan, follow this advice: grow up and focus all your energies on the peace process instead of hacking Liberation and Rue89? Or hack Le Figaro or some right wing rag spitting out hate at whatever scapegoat of the day the media promote? Oh, but those are the hands that feed you, perhaps?

c99227de81677a5614cd17e1cca0dcb4On Sunday, September 12, finally, the volcanic ashes of the deadly mount Ontake hardened, but the news of the coincidence of Charlotte Clinton III’s arrival on the very day Ontake erupted would never wane on TPV’s website.

On Monday, September 13, the Texas health worker who tested positive for Ebola wore ‘full’ protective gear and explained what “full protective gear” meant: one right hand latex glove, when her supervisor knew she was left handed.

On Tuesday, September 14, countries big and small met in Cairo to plan the reconstruction of Gaza: $5 billions for 50 days of war.

“Affordable,” was the word each representative was heard to say, starting with the US emissary who promised a quarter of a billion.

  1. Does spelling count for anything? I don’t know, but as usual, I’ll take the TPV cover photo over a picture of a bloody head wound.

Still, glad the girl got the prize, Naomi won the genetic lottery, sometimes it’s what’s inside that counts, sometimes it’s what’s outside.

  2. Besides, with all of this Ebola talk, poor old malaria isn’t getting enough attention anyway!

Speaking of: I understand everyone is afraid – I picked up The Hot Zone in a book store years ago, read the intro and put it down knowing that I shouldn’t read it because when I (inevitably) did, it would ruin my day. Anyone willing to help the sick are, to my mind, heroic, the idea that if they make a mistake, (thought he was OK after helping carry his sick, pregnant neighbor to a cab, nurse touched her own face…) they deserve to die, is not nice. It’s scary, fine, but you might touch your face someday too. And to those at the CDC talking about breaches of protocol – get out there and show us how it’s done!
