When TPV approves of NSA Spying

Now, this is what TPV calls putting the NSA services to a good cause: identifying religious affiliations so the White House could email you the appropriate greetings. All the way from Stockholm, via the White House computers, TPV received the email below. Outed, TPV has only one choice: to repeat itself. Again, then, here it is: attacking Syria absent a UN Security Council Vote approving the strikes would be illegal and dangerous. It would be illegal according to norms of international law and dangerous to Israel. So, understanding that the military bosses would have to take a rain check, let’s abstain from doing something foolish for us and inconsequential for the never-happening Syrian democracy.

Shanah Tovah from the White House

Dear Friends —

I want to extend to each and every one of you — and to your families, friends, colleagues, and communities — best wishes for a happy, healthy and sweet New Year.

In the lead-up to the holidays, President Obama held a conference call with the nearly 1,000 Rabbis from throughout the nation, during which he reflected on the historic commemoration of the 1963 March on Washington and the integral role Jewish-Americans have played in the Civil Rights Movement; the forthcoming open enrollment period under the Affordable Care Act; immigration reform and the situation in Syria; and the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

Shanah Tovah, and stay in touch!

President Obama’s Rosh Hashanah Video Greeting

With just a few hours to go until we begin celebrating the High Holidays, I wanted to share with you President Obama’s Rosh Hashanah video greeting, which went up on the White House website this morning:

President Obama’s Speech at the Great Synagogue of Stockholm

On the eve of Rosh Hashanah, President Obama delivered an historic address at the Great Synagogue of Stockholm, speaking to the Jewish community of Stockholm and honoring the memory of Swedish diplomat, Raoul Wallenberg — who saved tens of thousands of Hungarian Jews working in partnership with the U.S. War Refugee Board and the Swedish government.

  1. Glad to read that NSA is putting it’s carefully collected (but almost never, every consulted or even looked at, or thought about, “golly, we usually don’t even know that we have it, your honor…”) meta data to useful use.

    Happy New Year!

  2. I recently heard Ray Kelly defending NYCs use of spies in “suspicious” Mosques, among other things he said the covert action was legal under (rigorous) Federal standards.
