NYTimes: In Immigration Battle, Advocates for Overhaul Single Out Republicans

Representative Scott Tipton, a Republican of Colorado, rode a Tea Party wave to Congress. Now, he faces the pressure of his district’s demographics.

“In my district, there are three beans for every white person,” said Tipton, using what he termed a “friendly moniker ” for those of Hispanic descent.

TPV frowned and called the Representative for an explanation.

“I am in favor of immigration reform, ” said Tipton, “but not racism. We cannot single out the beans for favorable or unfavorable treatment. We must change the immigration laws so that they make no mention of beans or any other ethnic group. Let’s give amnesty, but not to particular minorities. Just people. That’s what we are. Just people. I support amnesty for all our people, all our citizens. Let’s see if the democrats dare go that far.”

  1. During that presentation Tipton turned to another member of the group. “I have not got you to smile once,” he said, offering a smile of his own, before moving to the front of the room to start his meeting.
“We’ve got some that were looking for a better life, but they broke the laws to this country,” he said. “That can’t be without penalty.”

They sat through his presentation, twice, that should be penalty enough.

As I understand it, he is offering amnesty to all citizens so no penalties for anything. It’s the (new) american way. Scott’s got his finger on the pulse of the nation. At least I think that’s his finger
